Couponing 101


Here in I Live For Coupons we can help you decode and learn the essentials before you are sent out to the store with your coupons.

Please read on to below:

1. Time: You need to set aside time to cut coupons and to find deals. Here in I Live for Coupons, I try to alert my fellow couponers to some extraordinary deals that you might have missed.
2. Get a printer and newspaper. Most store take IP(Internet Printables) or MQs (Manufacturer Coupons) or even E-Coupons (Coupons saved into your store card). Buy or subscribe to local newspapers that has coupon inserts. See Discounted Newspapers for deals in newspapers in your area.
3. Check your weekly ads for deals on items that you like then use I Live for Coupons Database on the bottom of the blog to see what insert had that item coupon.

Decoding Coupons:
In this blog we will tend to abbreviate inserts so it is important to know how we couponers speak.

acronyms and abbreviations:
  • +up = +ups rewards
  • b1g1 or bogo = buy one get one (free)
  • crt = cash register tape coupon
  • db = coupon database 
  • ets = excludes trial sizes
  • far = free after rebate
  • ff = firefox internet browser
  • gm = general mills coupon insert from newspaper
  • ie = internet explorer browser
  • man. = manufacturer
  • mfr = manufacturer
  • mir = mail in rebate
  • oop = out of pocket
  • pg/p&g = proctor & gamble coupon insert from newspaper
  • psa = prices start at
  • rp = red plum coupon insert from sunday newspaper
  • scr = single check rebate
  • ss = smartsource coupon insert from sunday newspaper
  • v = valassis (same as red plum) coupon insert
  • wyb = when you buy
  • ymmv = your mileage
